A national advocacy group for autism has selected Nashville’s Parthenon for the filming of a public service announcement.
The Autistic Self Advocacy Network will film the announcement starting 5 p.m. Thursday at Centennial Park. The nonprofit group hopes to raise awareness about autism. They also want to promote the idea that people with autism should be involved in the discussion about autism policy.
“With all the awareness for autism, we sometimes only see the disability and not the individuals themselves,” said Mary Partin, chief executive officer of the Dan Marino Foundation, which is funding the film. “We want the opportunity to exist for people with autism to speak with their own voice.”
People with autism will appear in the announcement and will step out of the shadows of the Parthenon to symbolically bring light to a new way of thinking.
